![]() ![]() A fully featured library, supporting multiple views, collections (categories), and game ratings.Automatic downloading of game info and cover art.Ability to scan attached disks for ROMs.Real-time 3D effects and image processing.High-quality OpenGL scaling, multithreaded playback, and other optimizations. If you’re using a Mac OS and love video games much, then OpenEmu should not be missed. Anyway, in this age of online games and large 3D games, I do believe the console gaming is still a fun-filled memory for most nostalgic old players. To this day I am still obsessed with console games rather than PC games, web games, mobile games, or any type of online games. It not only supports 8-bit systems, such as: Altari, Famicom (NES), Game Gear, NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color a variety of 16-bit systems, including Mega Drive, NeoGeo Pocket, PC Engine, Sega Genesis, SNES (SFC) as well as 32-bit systems, including Game Boy Advance, Nitendo DS, PlayStation, PlayStation Portable (PSP), Sega Saturn but also supports the 64-bit systems such as Nintendo 64. OpenEmu utilizes a modular architecture that supports game engine plug-ins (i.e.: loads various game engines as plugins), which means it can support a large number of different console emulation engines, and simulate the hardware of different TV/handheld game consoles. It enables us to play GB, GBA, NDS, PSP, NES, SNES, PlayStation, SEGA and other classic TV/handheld console games on Mac OS now. OpenEmu has a simple, beautiful and intuitive UI, supports drag & drop operation, game libraries, screenshot feature, real-time game rewinding function, allows user to easily add, browse, organize supported game ROM files, and can connect to compatible gamepads. And its purpose is to bring macOS game emulation into the realm of first class citizenship. Its appearance means that the ‘ It just works‘ concept has extended to the video game simulation field on Mac operating system for the first time ever. Also, the fact that one has to pay for controller support is ridiculous considering no other emulator has such restrictions, besides other emulators programmed by Richard Bannister.OpenEmu (formerly called OpenNestopia) is a free and open-source multiple systems universal game console emulator only for Mac OS. Yes, Nestopia works, but it is so stripped down from the PC version that it is disappointing. None of the other Mac NES emus work well at all, so this is really your only option. If you have a Mac and want to play old NES games on it then you’ll need Nestopia and Emulator Enhancer to be able to do that. However, I’m a bit peeved that the original Nestopia offered controller support free of charge, but that option was taken away in the Mac version of Nestopia. If you have Emulator Enhancer, which you can use for free but will eventually need to buy for $30 if you want all the features, you can connect USB controllers just fine. You can play around with the interface and the video in Preferences, but there aren’t as many options as other emulators. You can save an unlimited number of freeze states, but there is no in game save option. It also makes NES games look super dated. ![]() I like full screen but it’s a bit fuzzy and out of focus. Nestopia on the Mac can emulate most NES games just fine, sure, but you only have two window size options: thumbnail or full screen. Nestopia for the Mac is a watered down version of the PC emulator. If you want controller support you need to download Emulator Enhancer. You need to have a Mac that runs on at least 600 mhz for Nestopia to work. Open it and you should be able to use Nestopia. Just download the file and it will mount on your desktop. Bright Hub will not tell you where to find roms, so don’t ask. Acquiring roms that you do not own a hard copy of is illegal. Remember, to emulate NES games with Nestopia you need to have the NES roms. ![]() Sure, Nestopia works if you want to emulate NES games on your Mac at the barest level, but it could be so much more. Unfortunately, the Mac version does not have all of the fancy emu stuff the PC version comes with. ![]() Nestopia is a really good emulator on the PC. ![]()
